Synopsis

Every year, thousands of deaths occur in the world from hypertension, which is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In addition, there is a significant increase in the prevalence of hypertension-related diseases in the world. In a successful hypertension management, it is very important to reveal the compliance of individuals to treatment. Hypertension is a type of non-communicable disease that is common in the world and in our country and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. According to the World Health Organization, hypertension is responsible for one out of every eight deaths in the world, and hypertension is the third deadliest disease in the list of deaths. These levels show a similar distribution for developed and developing countries. Hypertension is responsible for 6% of adult deaths. The fact that hypertension-related disability and mortality can be prevented reveals the importance of disease management in hypertension. Starting treatment constitutes the first step in hypertension management, but demonstrating the compliance of individuals to antihypertensive treatment is a prerequisite for successful disease management. There are many factors affecting antihypertensive treatment compliance. The aim of this review is to examine the compliance levels of hypertensive individuals to antihypertensive treatment and to examine the factors affecting their compliance.
