Synopsis
Healthcare professionals from different branches and professions serving in healthcare institutions produce and use a lot of documents in the workflow process. Effective management of information and medical documents are extremely important for many situations such as increasing satisfaction in healthcare services, determining quality and accreditation standards, developing services and policies, ensuring patient-employee safety, etc. Therefore, it can be said that effective management of medical documents, which are mainly in the field of duty of medical secretaries, plays a critical role for healthcare institutions. In this study, the status of how medical documents, medical records, and the profession of medical secretarial work, which are extremely important in practice, are addressed in postgraduate theses has been a matter of curiosity, and the aim of the research conducted on this issue is to reveal the current situation. A search was conducted in the National Thesis Center with different keywords determined in the relevant field, and 36 postgraduate theses were reached. The research was carried out with a mixed method where quantitative and qualitative methods were used together, and the data were analyzed with bibliometric analysis and content analysis methods. When the findings are evaluated, it is seen that the field of medical documentation and secretarial work has a wide scope and that the studies are conducted in different universities, institutes and departments. There are 14 theses on medical secretaries, 3 theses on the Medical Documentation and Secretarial Program, 6 theses on medical documents/medical documents/medical documentation, 13 theses on medical records, and research has been conducted in different fields with different perspectives.
