Synopsis

This research aims to examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the field of sport management by SWOT analysis method. The study aims to contribute to the elimination of theoretical and practical deficiencies in the field by making strategic recommendations for sport management education. Based on the SWOT matrix, 6 strategies were developed by utilising strengths, 10 strategies to overcome weaknesses, 6 strategies to utilise opportunities and 6 strategies against threats. These strategies are envisaged to have a great potential to support the development in the field of sport management and digital transformation. Academic studies in the field of sport management develop strategies for more effective management of sport organisations by addressing the social, cultural, economic and digital dimensions of sport. However, there are some gaps in the existing literature. In particular, it is concluded that more focus should be given to issues such as the social role of sport, digitalisation, virtual environments such as Metaverse, the role of women in sport management and sport psychology. Furthermore, it has been revealed that sport has started to be considered not only as an activity but also as a commercial field. Although sport management education mostly focuses on topics such as sport leadership, human resources and organisational management, more research is needed in areas such as social responsibility, ethics, innovation, international collaborations and digital transformation. In this context, it is critical that sport management education adapts to the digital transformation process and provides students with modern management skills. It is also stated that Turkey's sport management strategies should be supported by international perspectives in a global competitive environment. As a result, multidisciplinary approaches should be adopted in sport management education and values such as social responsibility, digitalisation and sustainability should be brought to the forefront. It should be ensured that students have not only management skills but also knowledge about the effects of sport on society.
