Synopsis

Mental resilience is the capacity of individuals to maintain their performance under stressful and challenging conditions. This concept refers not only to athletes being physically strong but also mentally strong. Mental resilience consists of elements such as focus, courage, confidence, emotional control, determination, and performing under pressure. Initially seen as a personality trait, mental resilience has gradually become an important performance factor in the sports world. Studies, especially in the field of sports psychology, have shown that mental resilience is not just an innate characteristic but also a skill that can be developed. For example, this trait can be enhanced through training and psychological techniques. Many factors influence the development of mental resilience. Coaches play a crucial role in enhancing athletes' mental resilience. A positive training environment created by coaches, setting challenging physical and mental goals, providing feedback, and offering supportive approaches can all boost athletes' mental resilience. Additionally, psychological training programs and practices in competitive, pressure-filled environments are also influential in this process. In fast-paced sports like basketball, the mental resilience of players plays a critical role in addition to their physical abilities. This sport requires players to make the right decisions under pressure, stay focused, and manage team dynamics effectively. The development of mental resilience in basketball players is not only possible through natural talent but also through specialized training and strategies. Practices like last-second shots and game management under intense opponent pressure test players' mental resilience. Coaches' role in this process is to provide feedback, encourage players, and turn failures into learning opportunities. Furthermore, strong communication within the team, players supporting each other, and focusing on team goals are crucial for enhancing mental resilience.
