Synopsis
In this section, the organizational structure created to prevent doping in sports and the activities of this structure are summarized. Furthermore, it is aimed to inform the reader about the current structure of the organization established for anti-doping purposes and its basic functioning and practices. Since the realization of the increasing harms of doping, efforts to prevent doping have increased accordingly. This movement was pioneered by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which was established in a formal structure with an international collaborative approach. Doping deterrence practices mostly focus on “Punishment” with a detection and intelligence-oriented approach, and educational activities involving anti-doping practices are regarded as complementary. Scientific studies, on the other hand, predict that an education-based sports environment will exhibit more desirable attitudes toward doping. Nowadays, anti-doping strategies created based on scientific data are carried out in an institutional and professional framework. Unless doping in sports can be completely prevented, the question of “How can we combat doping more successfully?” will be the subject of scientific research, and science will continually shed light on anti-doping management.
