Synopsis
This research aims to examine the professional motivation of academicians working in the field of sports sciences during the pandemic. A descriptive survey model was used in our study. While the population of the research consisted of academicians working at universities in Turkiye, the sample group consisted of academicians working in the Faculties of Sports Sciences and Schools of Physical Education and Sports. The first section of the research comprises a personal information form, while the second section is based on the Academic Motivation Scale to measure professional motivation among academicians. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 statistical software package. A 95% confidence interval was used as the reference for the analysis. The normal distribution of the data was calculated by examining the measures of kurtosis and skewness. After analyzing the data, it has been determined that the measures of kurtosis and skewness fall within the range of ±2, indicating a normal distribution. Therefore, it has been decided to use parametric tests for the analysis of the data. The parametric analyses used in our study include the Independent Samples t-test for less than three variables and the One-Way ANOVA for more than three variables. Furthermore, frequency calculations, percentage calculations, mean and standard deviation calculations, and reliability calculations have been conducted. Upon analysis, it was determined that there is a statistically significant difference between the participants' academic motivation levels and the variable of the region in which they are employed (p<0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were found between the participants' academic motivation levels and variables such as professional experience, gender, academic title, department of employment, and conducting classes through distance education (p>0.05). In conclusion, it is observed that the participants have a moderate level in the dimension of management policies and practices, with high scores in the total scale score and all other sub- dimensions.
