Synopsis
Comprehensively covers musculoskeletal injuries commonly seen in snowboard athletes, the causes of these injuries and prevention strategies. Mechanisms of injuries such as knee, ankle and wrist, shoulder, spine and head injuries are explained in detail, and individual (age, gender, fitness), environmental (weather, snow quality) and equipment (lack of protective equipment) risk factors are discussed. To reduce the risk of injury, the use of protective equipment (helmets, wrist guards, knee pads), training in fall techniques and biomechanical principles, as well as conditioning programmes to improve balance and endurance are recommended. The chapter provides scientific recommendations to improve the safety of snowboarding, protect the health of athletes and sustain participation rates in the sport.
