Synopsis
One of the important factors that cause damage to structures under dynamic loads is local soil properties. The main reason for ground problems such as loss of bearing capacity, ground amplification, liquefaction, and settlement is the change of these properties during an earthquake. In particular, ground amplification is affected by parameters such as bedrock depth, thickness and type of soil layers, dynamic properties of the soil, discontinuity of the layers, and the topographic structure of the region. In order to prevent structural damages that occur due to these parameters or to reduce their negative effects, it is of great importance to investigate how the soils will behave under these loads depending on the local soil conditions and to conduct and evaluate ground amplification analyses in advance within the scope of site-specific dynamic analyses.
In this study, in order to examine the effect of local ground conditions on ground amplification, one-dimensional dynamic analyses were performed using 11 different earthquake data selected in accordance with the Turkish Building Earthquake Regulation, which entered into force in 2019, as ground motion in the bedrock outcrop. For this purpose, first of all, 124 different drilling data were evaluated in the region and local ground properties were determined. One-dimensional DeepSoil analysis program was used to examine the effect of determined local soil properties on dynamic behavior. One-dimensional equivalent linear and nonlinear analyses were performed and different magnification values were obtained for each drilling. The results obtained according to one-dimensional analyses were mapped using Geographic Information Systems. It is thought that the use of nonlinear analysis method will reduce the cost of determining the soil parameters to be used in the design of building foundations under earthquake effect, definition of local soil classes and design of retaining structures and slopes. Within the scope of studies aimed at reducing earthquake damages, it was planned to determine safe settlement areas for Afyonkarahisar satellite town region, considering that urbanization and population are concentrated in the study region.
