Synopsis
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects all age groups. It is usually characterized by inflammation and hypersensitivity. Inflammation refers to the response to tissue damage. Oxidative stress caused by free radicals contributes to the pathogenesis of asthma. Inflammation plays a role in the development of diseases such as asthma, obesity, and diabetes. Insulin resistance and glucose metabolism problems may occur in people with asthma. Nutrition, which is a risk factor associated with the severity of asthma and inflammation, can be treated with anti-inflammatory diets rich in antioxidant nutrients. Antioxidants prevent cell damage and neutralize free radicals. Anti-inflammatory diets containing components such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, and probiotics may have positive effects on inflammation-related diseases such as asthma. Therefore, the intake of dietary antioxidants should be increased.
As a result, antioxidant-containing foods or supplements can be used as a preventive and protective measure in asthma patients.
