Stock Split and An Application in BIST

Synopsis
In this study, the aim is to analyze stock split data for 303 companies operating in the energy, raw materials, industrial products and services, basic consumer goods, discretionary consumer goods, finance, healthcare, technology, energy, and real estate sectors, whose shares are traded on the Borsa İstanbul (BIST) Equity Market, from 2014 to 2023. As a result of the analysis, it was found that during the specified period, the energy sector had 12 stock splits from 10 companies, the raw materials sector had 80 stock splits from 52 companies, the industrial products and services sector had 83 stock splits from 44 companies, the basic consumer goods sector had 44 stock splits from 29 companies, the discretionary consumer goods sector had 100 stock splits from 59 companies, the finance sector had 95 stock splits from 45 companies, the healthcare sector had 17 stock splits from 8 companies, the technology sector had 15 stock splits from 13 companies, the public services sector had 20 stock splits from 13 companies, and the real estate sector had 78 stock splits from 30 companies. It was observed that the highest number of stock splits occurred in the discretionary consumer goods sector, followed by the finance sector and the raw materials sector. The least number of stock splits occurred in the energy sector, the technology sector, and the healthcare sector. The highest number of stock splits occurred in 2021, while the lowest number of stock splits occurred in 2014.
