Synopsis
In an organizational environment where climate change, sustainable development, and circular economies are gaining importance, green leadership practices are important in encouraging organizations to be environmentally friendly and positively tackle environmental challenges. Given the critical role of leadership in encouraging employees to participate in the environmental initiatives of the business without harming the natural environment based on balancing climate and economy, green leadership is considered as the ability of leaders to influence individuals and organizations to realize the long-term vision of ecological sustainability. Green leadership is the ability to create a vision for sustainability, communicate that vision to others, and inspire them to take action towards achieving sustainability. Since green leadership is a relatively new concept in leadership research, conceptualizing and comprehensively examining green leadership is essential for developing the literature. Accordingly, in this section, the definition of green leadership is clearly explained and evaluated in the context of green leadership characteristics and foundations. In addition, the antecedents and consequences of green leadership behavior are discussed in detail.
