Synopsis
The economy generally consists of three main sectors: industry, agriculture and service. Since the 1950s, the service sector has gained an important place especially in developed economies and has become more important than the industrial sector in terms of production, employment and consumption. Within the scope of the service sector is the tourism sector, which has a comparative advantage for Turkey and is referred to as the chimneyless industry. Considering the sociocultural values in different regions of Turkey, factors such as natural richness and a geography where four seasons can be experienced, tourism has a feature that diversifies the service sector and spreads it to the regions. Today, the service sector has gained increasing importance in parallel with the development process of the economy. Since the second half of the 20th century, both in developed and developing countries, the service sector has overtaken the agricultural and industrial sectors. The tourism sector, which mainly produces services, has a positive impact on socio-economic development for developing countries, which is the most important effect on the service sector. In addition, depending on the development of tourism in a region, construction activities, luxury service offerings, security services, various recreational activities and public investments in that region are listed as some of the other effects of tourism on the service sector.
