Synopsis
Technological developments and changing economic conditions increase the length of individual free time. Changing habits and cultural norms make it increasingly important for people from all segments of society to use this time efficiently in accordance with their personal interests. Recreation refers to all active or passive activities in which people voluntarily participate in their leisure time left after working and meeting their vital needs. Recreational activities are not limited to the tourism sector but are quite diverse. In addition, it does not only appeal to the segment of society with a certain income level. It is possible for both public and private sector enterprises to serve the society by offering various alternatives in order to meet the self-realization needs of people of all age groups, economic backgrounds and social status together with disabled individuals. The existence of recreational enterprises is quite necessary not only because of their contribution to the economy, but also because they improve social life, meet the need of socialization for individuals and contribute to both physical and mental wellbeing. Like all private sector businesses, recreation businesses need to take strategic management seriously to ensure long-term sustainability and competitive advantage. In this sector, which offers a wide range of options in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship and is often highly competitive, it is recommended that businesses should build strong core competencies, be conscious of the legal protection of patents and commercial rights in order to prevent their products from being replicated or emulated, and implement human resource management strategies to retain trained and talented personnel with strong social skills who are normally the biggest strength for the enterprise. In a business field that is highly sensitive to environmental changes and open to innovation, development and creative ideas, an effective strategic management approach is undoubtedly a prerequisite for profitable businesses. In this section, recreational enterprises, which have been inadequately studied in the field of strategic management, will be discussed and with examples from the sector a general introduction will be made to this subject, which needs to be addressed in more detail in future research.
