Chamber Music Education with the Literature of Turkish Music and Its Reflections on Course Outcomes in Music Education Graduate Program

Chamber music is one of the courses in which music education departments perform music activities together in undergraduate and graduate programs. In these lessons, students perform examples of national and universal chamber music. The aim of this research is to reveal the use of Turkish composers' works in chamber music lessons in Music Education Graduate Programs and to determine the reflections of this literature to the gains in the chamber music lesson content in the Music Education Graduate Programs with the application carried out using the piano chamber music works of Turkish composers. In line with this purpose, first of all, interviews were done with the lecturers who provide chamber music education at postgraduate level using a semi-structured interview form. Also, piano chamber music works of Turkish composers are listed by document analysis method. Then, chamber music education, which was performed using piano chamber music works of Turkish composers, was observed with structured observation forms. Interviews were done with the students who were observed before and after the observation using the semi-structured interview form. Nvivo12 program was used in the analysis of the data obtained from the interviews, content analysis was done and certain themes and codes were reached as a result of these analyzes. 447 chamber music works of 107 Turkish composers were reached in the work list obtained by document analysis method. These works reached include the instruments in instrument education in the Fine Arts Education Department of the Faculty of Education, Department of Music Education. As a result of the interviews made with the lecturers, it was concluded that the factors affecting the achievement of the course achievements related to chamber music works of Turkish composers are limited literature and students' level differences. However, it was determined that the use of this literature in chamber music education was difficult due to the insufficient accumulation of students on Turkish music elements, their indifference to Turkish music, and inadequate works suitable for the level. As a result of the observations made with the piano chamber music of Turkish composers, it was revealed that the achievements in the Music Education Graduate Programs were reached by using this literature. Based on the results obtained from the interviews, in the last part of the research, suggestions such as writing works suitable for all levels, printing written works, taking place of this literature in the curriculum and artistic/scientific activities are included.
