Synopsis

Language is the most powerful tool and expression for communication, mutual understanding, and cultural transmission among people. As the fundamental component of thinking and understanding processes, language enables individuals to create a unique world of their own, where values produced are passed down from generation to generation. Cultural heritage is preserved and reproduced through language. Therefore, imparting language acquisition and cultural habits, which are common needs of every nation, is one of the primary goals of education.

Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language aims not only to convey the grammatical aspects of Turkish but also to share its cultural depths with learners. The roots of Turkish extend to an oral narrative tradition, which has enriched language and literature in aesthetic and cultural contexts and has endured to the present day. In order to meet these needs, it is essential to address both the aesthetic and functional aspects of Turkish in an integrated manner while teaching it as a foreign language. In this way, foreign students learning Turkish will not only grasp the rules of the language but will also understand the emotional and social dimensions of Turkish culture.

One of the most debated topics in teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language is how to present grammar and cultural content. Following contemporary approaches, teaching grammar topics functionally will yield positive results for both teachers and students. Considering the historical development of Turkish and its ties to culture, a holistic approach should be adopted in language instruction.

This book aims to answer the question of "how?" in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language, helping to achieve a better understanding of the general characteristics of Turkish. We hope that the new evaluations conducted to achieve more effective results in Turkish lessons will benefit teachers dedicated to teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
