Synopsis
This study explores how digitalization has transformed the concept of leisure and examines the significance of esports in this process. Digital innovations have reshaped traditional leisure activities, replacing physical activities with those carried out in the virtual world. In this context, esports activities have gained significant popularity by allowing individuals to engage in competitive and social digital leisure activities. Furthermore, esports has evolved from being merely a form of entertainment to becoming a phenomenon with notable social and economic dimensions.
Esports has gained a prominent place within digital leisure activities, particularly as it has rapidly spread among younger generations. However, esports also has significant social and psychological impacts on individuals. While the increase in social interactions and the satisfaction individuals derive from these activities are positive outcomes, the potential negative effects of esports, such as social isolation, addiction, and health issues, should not be overlooked. Therefore, it is recommended that further academic research be conducted to better understand the long-term effects of digital leisure activities on individuals and society.
