Synopsis

In this study, I will discuss the sociological meanings and social construction processes of disaster. I will emphasize the importance of grasping the concept of food security as a basic human right in disaster conditions. I will try to discuss what can be done during and after a disaster with food security, right to food and right to water approaches in an interdisciplinary approach. Disaster is an event that occurs in nature but whose effects are felt at different levels as a result of the struggle of human beings with nature in our age and the idea of taking nature under control, and which takes place in an unpredictable place and time. On the other hand, disaster is a social event and is socially constructed. Understanding disaster sociologically requires evaluating disaster as a part of social structures and processes. From the moment a disaster strikes, food and therefore nutrition needs of the affected population and survivors emerge simultaneously. After hunger, food security is one of the most important problems related to nutrition in the world. Under disaster conditions, food security becomes a vital issue. The right to food and water is of vital importance in disaster conditions compared to other rights. In humanitarian aid arrangements, every living individual has the right to adequate water, food, clothing, shelter and the necessities of health. It is necessary to defend the right to food and food security in disaster conditions. In crisis management during a disaster, it is essential to ensure that as soon as possible, the broken food chain is restored.
