Synopsis

Dark triad personality traits can lead individuals to exhibit manipulative, selfish and callous behaviors. Managers with such traits may exhibit toxic leadership behaviors in sport organizations.

Toxic leadership is a factor that leads to serious consequences by destroying employee morale, damaging team cohesion and negatively affecting overall performance.  In this book chapter, the relationship between narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy personality traits and toxic leadership behaviors has been examined from the perspective of sport management. In this context, it is thought that understanding the dynamics between the dark triad personality traits and toxic leadership will contribute to both more sustainable and successful sports organizations and the behavioral styles of managers working in this field.
