The Effect of Generation Differences on Organizational Commitment

Synopsis

Organizational commitment is the main criterion for employees to perform their jobs and align with the business. Attachment is an emotional response and develops under the influence of many factors. The individual considers various factors when developing this bond, either positively or negatively, and reflects this bond with their behavior. Among these factors, primarily; Basically, it is noteworthy that there is harmony in the organizational commitment levels of the generations determined according to the common characteristics exhibited by the age groups, and this issue is supported by other studies in the literature. In this relationship between organizational commitment and generational differences, the inevitability of digitalization and the effect of the power of organizations, and therefore their employees, who are the basis of the organization, to use digital information, that is, digital literacy, are also important.

Our internal customers, in other words, our employees, are stakeholders and have to be involved in the digitalization process together with the organization. In this process, organizations should act according to the reactions of age groups and digital literacy levels in order to increase the organizational commitment of their employees. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to reveal the regulatory role of digital literacy in the effect of generational differences on organizational commitment. For this purpose, it is aimed to reach the data of the study by applying a three-variable questionnaire to the X, Y, M and Z generations working in the white goods sector throughout Turkey.

In this study, it is predicted that more young employees will have digital literacy and that the commitment of these employees to the organization will decrease in organizations that cannot be integrated into digitalization, and at the same time, older employees are afraid of digital transformation because they cannot have digital literacy and this may increase their organizational commitment.
