Synopsis
Recently, natural disasters affecting human life and the magnitudes of these disasters have taken an important place in our lives. Especially in terms of our country, the disasters experienced from history to this time, especially earthquakes, have caused many loss of life and property. Especially the Istanbul Earthquake, Erzincan Earthquake and Marmara Earthquake, which are called the Little Apocalypse, have emerged as disasters that caused great losses and left great traces for our country. As a country, disasters have been intervened with a crisis-oriented approach in terms of disaster management, but not much success has been achieved. The Marmara Earthquake was considered as a turning point in terms of disaster management of our country and the country has ceased to be crisis management oriented and prioritized to be risk management oriented. In this context, an integrated disaster management system was introduced. An active dynamic structure has been adopted in risk-damage mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery activities. In 2009, with the establishment of AFAD and completion of the necessary administrative and legal legislations, a more equipped and effective management approach was adopted in the face of disasters. In this context, management systems and studies to meet the needs of the country have been provided and a more effective and successful system has been established in the face of disasters.
