A Review of the Development of “Visit Afyon” Mobile Application

Synopsis
Aim
The aim of this study is to examine the mobile application called “VisitAfyon” in terms of content, to identify the shortcomings of the destination in line with its tourism potential and to develop application content suggestions accordingly.
Method
In the study, descriptive analysis research method was used. The data obtained in the current mobile application was first described systematically and clearly. Afterwards, the VisitAfyon mobile application, which was examined critically according to its segmentation, was presented with a mobile application design model through the Mockitt Design program in order to bring innovations in line with the changes and needs and to increase its preferability by tourists.
Findings
As a result of the examination of the VisitAfyon mobile application in the study, it is seen that the logo of the application is only Afyonkarahisar Castle and the colour pink is dominant. When the categories of the application were examined, it was determined that they consisted of Near Me, Event, Must See, Shopping, Museums and Accommodation categories. Apart from these categories, on the interface of the application, it can be seen that they are listed as Thermal Capital, City of Gastronomy, City Witnessing the War of Independence, Opium Sausage, Local Taste Stops on the Mysterious Phrygia Tour, Best of Turkish Delight, and Souvenir Shops.
Results And Suggestions
As a result of this study, the categories and interface in the current application were examined critically. It has been determined that the application is generally complex and some tourist attractions have not been added. Some suggestions have been made to improve the application by keeping it up-to-date in order to make the application more understandable for the use of tourists and an easier guide in line with their needs. The application content is categorized as "Afyonkarahisar", "History and Culture", "Thermal Capital", "Gastronomy", "Recreation Areas", "Nature", "Accommodation", "Shopping", "Tour Routes" and "Ask Us a Question". It has been suggested that.
Originality
Conducting this study will enable the development of the existing VisitAfyon application. The study is intended to provide guidance to tourists, local people who interact with tourists, stakeholders in the tourism sector, and destination managers. Thus, this study, which aims to increase the promotion and preferability of Afyonkarahisar destination, will contribute to the tourism literature from different perspectives.
