Synopsis

In an economy, there are many different determinants and dynamics of growth. In this sense, factors such as information and communication technologies (ICTs) and renewable energy consumption (REC) are also important dynamics for growth. ICTs have been the central driving force behind the globalization trends, which commenced after 1980 and have further accelerated since then. Similarly, ICTs have significantly contributed to global production growth in the world economy by enhancing total factor productivity. With the increase in global production and its spread to different geographies, renewable energy consumption has become one of the primary inputs in the production of goods and services. In this framework, the main purpose of this study is to analyze how and to what extent ICT and REC affect growth in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and MINT (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey) countries. In this context, the Panel ARDL/PMG method was applied using the data of these countries for the period 1995-2018. According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis, ICT and REC positively affect economic growth in the long term. Within the framework of the findings obtained, selective policies should be produced in ICT and REC fields, and continuous investments should be made in these fields for sustainable and lasting growth in BRICS and MINT countries.
