Synopsis
Geographical indication is a sign indicating a product that is identified with the region, area, region or country of origin in terms of a distinctive quality, reputation or other characteristics. The concept of Geographical Indication, which is one of the industrial property rights, is an important concept for Turkey and Europe. Geographical indication registration processes are progressing with regulations, by-laws, articles of law and similar legal legislations. Hazelnut is the most cultivated product in the world after almonds. Turkey is the main country in terms of hazelnut production and exports. In this study, some characteristics of Giresun Tombul Hazelnut, which meets the demand of a large proportion of the world, is exported and has received geographical indication registration, and Nocciola del Piemonte/Nocciola Piemonte hazelnut, which has received geographical indication registration in Italy, an EU member, and concept of geographical indication were examined.
