Synopsis

Cushing syndrome is a serious condition responsible for multiple comorbidities and increased mortality and is a clinical condition that occurs with increased blood levels of glucocorticoid hormones. Although the actual incidence and prevalence of Cushing's syndrome is not clearly known, its estimated annual incidence varies between 2 and 8 per million. The most common cause of the disease is exogenous administration of glucocorticoids in chronic diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and rheumatological conditions. Since the mortality rate in Cushing syndrome is high, early diagnosis and treatment have always been important. Effective treatment is required to reduce mortality, comorbidities, and improve long-term quality of life. For patients affected by Cushing's syndrome, care is essential in managing the long-term effects and comorbidities associated with hypercortisolism.
