Synopsis

The virüs known as Monkeypox is a DNA virüs originating from the Monkeypox virüs, which belongs to the Poxviridae family and the Orthopoxvirusgenus. The virus that causes the infection has also been isolated from squirrels, rats, mice and some other rodents, apart from monkeys. In May 2022, the first case was reported in London on May 4 and then in 30 different countries, but as of 30.06.2022, it was reported in Istanbul, Turkey. A 37-year-old patient was identified as the first case in our country. Altough the monkeypox virus caused concern as Covid-19 affected the whole World in 2019, it seems unlikely that it will turn into a pandemic.
