Synopsis

Salmonella are gram-negative rods that belong to the Enterobacteriaceae family and do not form spores. Salmonella spp. is a pathogen that is a responsible for serious foodborne infections. It is a worldwide threat to public health and economy. Every year, many people dies because of Salmonella spp. infection all over the world. An alarming increase in multi-drug resistant Salmonella strains has been observed. Salmonella spp. can cause different forms of infections such as acute enteritis, enteric fever, , bacteremia and invasive infections. These infection-preventing strategies cover the entire food production chain, from field to table carefully following hygiene standards starting from agricultural practies, raising farm animals and products under hygienic conditions, and applying cleaning and disinfection protocols at food processing stages are part of these strategies.
