Synopsis
It is seen that climate change, which has been experienced with the increase in global warming in recent years, has a negative impact on human health, the natural environment, the economy, agricultural production and food security. It is understood that the negativities caused by this change have become one of the most important agenda items in the world over time, and all countries, under the leadership of the United Nations (UN), are mobilized to reduce and eliminate the risks posed by climate change.
The fact that measures for the protection of the environment and nature were inadequate and did not receive the importance they deserved until the end of the 20th century led to the emergence of the concept of sustainability and made it necessary to adopt the concept of sustainability in all areas of society. In this context, financial institutions have started to contribute to climate awareness and sustainability by following environmental policies in their activities and developing products that highlight environmental responsibility. The banking sector tries to contribute to the concept of sustainability by developing green products, financing green businesses and supporting projects to protect the environment.
In this study, the concept of sustainability and the methods that have been put into practice or are planned to be put into practice in the banking sector within the scope of sustainability, as well as policy examples and suggestions, have been included, and the concept of sustainability in the banking sector has been tried to be fully expressed.
