Synopsis

This research has been prepared in order to determine the expenditure items and amounts of teacher candidates who continue higher education. The study is in the quantitative research type and the screening model, which is one of the descriptive research methods, was used. The data were obtained with the voluntary participation of 262 teacher candidates who continue their education in the faculty of education of a state university. In the analysis of the data, arithmetic mean (x̄), standard deviation (ss), percentage (%), frequency (f) values were determined, chi-square test, likelihood ratio statistics, Mann Whitney you and Kruskal Wallis tests were applied. The general expenditure items realized by the teacher candidates were determined as "dormitory/apartment/house rent" at most and "teaching materials", "technological devices" and "travel" at least. Monthly education expenditure items were mostly "stationery materials" and the least "internet" and "field courses". It was determined that the general expenditure items and monthly education expenditure items of the teacher candidates did not differ according to gender and the departments they continued their education, and their monthly income did not differ according to the department, but there were significant differences according to gender. In 2022, the monthly income of teacher candidates is determined as TL 1,148 and monthly education expenditure amounts are determined as TL 517. At the end of the research, some suggestions for improving the monthly general and education expenditures of teacher candidates were included.
