Synopsis
Banks, which are the main actors of the money market, fulfill important duties in the functioning of the economic system with the credit opportunities they offer to consumers and producers. Therefore, analyzing the factors affecting bank credit volume at the macro level is important to understand and manage the dynamics of the real economy. Based on this, in the study, a comprehensive analysis of the factors affecting bank loans was made in a theoretical context. In this context, the factors affecting bank loans are examined in two groups under the heading of monetary policy practices and macroeconomic indicators. Under the subheading of monetary policy applications, the effects of interest policy, reserve requirements, rediscount policy, and open market operations carried out by the central bank on bank loans are discussed. In this context, it has been determined that the central bank has a comprehensive role in bank loans. Under the subheading of macroeconomic indicators, the effects of economic growth, inflation rate, dollarization, public debt, asset prices, and international capital movements on bank loans are revealed. In this way, it has been observed that various macroeconomic indicators have a significant interaction with bank loans through different channels. At the end of the study, a comprehensive theoretical framework at the macro level is presented to analyze the developments in the volume of credit offered by the banking sector. Thus, a comprehensive analytical framework has been reached that will guide policies that will ensure the effevctive development of bank loans in order to activate the relations between the real and financial sectors stronlgly.
