Synopsis

The movement of displacement, which has taken place since the first periods of history, has continued from time to time with forced migrations and sometimes with the desire to live in different regions. Individuals tend to create their own diaspora in the destination as a result of these voluntary migrations made for compulsory reasons such as exile or economic, political and cultural reasons. As a result of the conveniences such as the disappearance of the borders and the increase in communication and transportation opportunities brought by the phenomenon called globalization, the mobility of individuals who migrated from their place of residence for various reasons to revisit their homeland is increasing day by day. Mobility and touristic activities carried out in this context are defined as ‘diaspora tourism’. It is seen that diaspora tourism, which is also referred to as "roots tourism" or "homeland tourism", is a type of tourism that should be emphasized more in the national and international arena. In this section, it is mentioned about the communities that migrate from where they live constantly and are referred to as “diaspora” where they go, and the place and importance of diasporas in tourism. Additionally, some of the diaspora tourism practices in Türkiye and around the world are included.
