Synopsis

The postmodern family structure has dominated in today’s world, where the postmodern paradigm is dominant, and the patriarchal authority has been moved away and a family structure in which children are active has come to the fore. In this family structure, the children have gained importance and has taken an active role in family decisions. Families have started to make their purchasing and holiday choices according to the wishes and needs of their children. Tourism businesses have also realized this effect of children in the family and have focused on marketing activities for children. These developments have contributed to the emergence of the concept of “child-friendly tourism” in tourism and the formation of child-friendly criteria for tourism businesses. Today, many businesses design their facilities and diversity their services in accordance with these criteria. Therefore, the issue of children, whose importance has increased for tourism businesses in recent years, is thought to be important. In this context, the concept of child-friendly tourism and child-friendly tourism practices in the tourism industry have been explained in this chapter.
