Synopsis

The ornamentation Works made by carving some parts of the stone, wood, and mine and preparing pieces from another more valuable, attractive material or mine and embedding them in these cavities is called "inlaying". Works like carving an ordinary Stone and embedding figures from marble pieces into it, mounting mother of pearl pieces over ebony, and ivory or bone pieces over walnut wood are the most common examples of inlaying. The art of inlaying is an art branch that has been applied in our geography or centuries and it has caused us to ask the question whether an application of organic and metal materials such as mother of pearl, tortoiseshell, stone, silver, gold with a different interpretation and has led us to seek a work with technique. Inlaying with precious metals on ceramic is a method that has not been applied before. Applying the silver inlay technique on ceramic appears as a new method in thistudy. Ensuring that the art of jewelerysmiths ceramic enables the manufacturing of products which are different and easy to the eye by means of this new method, and the establishment of a link between the disciplines by the collaboration of two different disciplines. Based on the production technique of Gaziantep mother of pearl inlay, silver inlay technique was applied on ceramic pieces. As a result of the studies, the surface coating and decoration techniques used in jewelery have been applied on ceramics with experiments in the laboratory. Based on the technique applied in Gaziantep inlay, a technique open to improvement has been produced.
