Synopsis

In this study, the effects of calcium fluoride (CaF2) addition, in the range of 0.5-2.5% by weight, on the sheep hydroxyapatite-2.5% alumina (KHA-2.5A) binary system were examined. It was determined that the highest density (from 2.990±0.003 to 2.995±0.064 g/cm3), partial density (from %94.294±0.125 to %94.546±1.020), hardness ( from 4.437±0.292 GPa to 4.638±0.251 GPa), fracture toughness (from 1.709±0.154 MPam1/2 to 1.832±0.277 MPam1/2) and compressive strength (from 207.85±5.859 MPa to 231.64±5.394 MPa) properties obtained in the KHA-2.5A binary system could be increased by increasing the addition of CaF2.
