Synopsis

Luxury consumption, which is in the development phase, has not been an area of sufficient interest in marketing literature in the past. However, interest in literature studies on luxury marketing has increased in recent years. Nowadays, the spread of luxury brands to large markets, the increased purchasing power of middle-income consumers, and the widespread use of social media platforms have led to some changes in the strategies used in luxury marketing and marketing communication. Thus, new trends have emerged in the market. In recent years, topics such as brand activism, femvertising, sustainability, social media marketing, the democratization of luxury, and mass luxury have become popular in luxury marketing. Despite the rise in publications on these topics in luxury marketing, there are still shortcomings in knowledge, and topics that await examination in this period up to the present day. Therefore, this chapter aims to explain the definition of luxury and luxury brands. The chapter also aims to give the reader an idea of luxury consumption and examine current approaches in luxury marketing. Thus, the section covers the literature on luxury marketing and provides an overview of luxury and luxury brands, luxury consumption and consumers, and current trends in the luxury market.
