Synopsis

Social media allows people to communicate and interact with each other synchronously or asynchronously in the same or different time periods and locations. Today, it is becoming increasingly important to understand the role of social media platforms, which are seen as a very valuable communication tool for both individuals and businesses and brands, on knowledge sharing behavior. In this context, it is known that social media has a facilitating and accelerating effect in transferring the knowledge and experiences that individuals have to others. The main objective of this study is to provide a better understanding of the motivations of users' knowledge sharing on social media. Detailed literature research was conducted on the relevant factors, in order to contribute to future studies. In the literature, the knowledge sharing motivations of individuals are predominantly studied on the basis of intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors; empirical studies have shown that emphasis was placed on reputation, reciprocity, self-efficacy, altruism and entertainment factors. In the study, a detailed examination of these factors was made and related articles were analyzed and the effects of these factors on knowledge sharing behavior were reported on the basis of relevant studies.
