Synopsis

Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood. Tooth decay negatively affects the quality of life of the child and family and is considered a public health problem. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) can be preferred in non-cooperative or special care-needed patients in whom traditional restorative treatment methods cannot be applied. This method provides the possibility of treatment without the need for local anesthesia. The application procedure is simple and inexpensive compared to traditional treatment methods. Silver diamine fluoride is a non-invasive and economical method in the control of caries lesion. Silver diamine fluoride is a colorless, fluorine-releasing solution with the ability to stop active caries and reduce sensitivity. Stabilization of the solution is provided by ammonium. The fluorine ions in silver diamine fluoride provide remineralization and prevent the progression of caries. Silver ions have an antimicrobial role. In this section, it is aimed to give information about the use of silver diamine fluoride in pediatric dentistry.
