Synopsis

Initially used in industrial sectors, computer aided technology has been employed in dentistry since the 1980s, playing a crucial role in the production of dental restorations. This technological process consists of three stages. The first stage begins with Computer-Aided Impression (CAI), a device that digitally scans teeth and supporting tissues. The second stage is Computer-Aided Design (CAD), where the restoration is planned and designed in a three-dimensional computer environment. The final stage involves Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), where the designed restoration is transformed into a physical product.

Dental CAI/CAD/CAM systems offer numerous advantages in dental practice. They enhance the quality of restorations, improve time efficiency, and assist in reducing errors. Additionally, there is a decreased need for traditional impression materials, and in many cases, the final product can be delivered to the patient on the same day. CAI/CAD/CAM technology also reduces material waste and energy consumption.

The role of digitalization in dentistry is continuously expanding. The integration of advanced technologies and applications into digital platforms accelerates and optimizes dental procedures. This enables a more effective treatment process and increases patient satisfaction. Digitalization facilitates data transfer, expedites workflow, and provides dentists with the opportunity to obtain more precise measurements and accurate results.

In conclusion, dental CAI/CAD/CAM technology and digital manufacturing techniques have brought about a significant transformation in the field of dentistry. The utilization of these technologies has improved the quality and precision of dental restorations while making workflow processes more efficient. Digitalization has revolutionized dental practice, encouraging the use of advanced technologies and enhancing the overall dental experience.
