Synopsis
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a complex joint whose anatomical and physiological structure can vary from person to person. For this reason, it is important for clinicians to know the exceptions and details in the anatomy in order to make the diagnosis and treatment correctly. Mostly painful, physiological and functional disorders of masticatory muscles, temporomandibular joint and tissues adjacent to the joint are called temporamandibular disorders. Advances in diagnosis and treatment, especially in imaging techniques, have enabled us to better evaluate TMJ anatomy and functions. Due to the fact that the treatments are specific to various individuals, patients are in search of the most suitable treatment alternative for them. For this reason, studies have been carried out on different types of treatment for TMJ disorders in the light of current information, and it is still the subject of research.
