Synopsis

Personality traits, impression management tactics and life satisfaction are issues that meet on a common ground and offer clues about the behaviors of the individual in the social structure. Therefore, it is considered important to determine the relationship between the personality characteristics of physical education and sports teachers, impression management tactics and life satisfaction. The general aim of the study is to examine the role of personality traits in the relationship between impression management tactics and life satisfaction of physical education and sports teachers working in sports high schools.

The universe of the study consists of physical education and sports teachers working in a total of n=89 sports high schools, including sports high school n=79 thematic sports high school n=10 in Turkey in the 2020-2021 academic year.

The sample group consists of a total of n = 373 physical education and sports teachers who participated in the study in accordance with the principles of volunteerism from within the universe of the research, representing 77% of the universe.

In the study, "On-Item Personality Scale" developed by Gosling et al. (2003) and adapted to Turkish by Atak (2013) was used to determine the personality characteristics of the participants as data collection tools. The "Impression Management Scale" developed by Bolino and Turnley (1999) and adapted into Turkish by Basım, Tatar and Şahin (2006) was used to determine the impression management used by the participants. The "Life Satisfaction Scale" developed by Diener, Emmons, Larsen and Griffin (1985) and adapted to Turkish by Dağlı and Baysal (2016) was used to determine life satisfaction levels.

Descriptive and descriptive statistical methods were used in the analysis of the data, independent sample t test in the comparison of binary groups, one-way analysis of variance in the comparison of three and more groups, correlation analysis to determine the level of relationship between variables, and regression analysis was used to determine the effects of independent variables on the dependent variable.

As a result: It has been determined that physical education and sports teachers predominantly exhibit responsible personality traits and use the tactic of self-enthusiasm by introducing their qualities from impression management tactics. Personality traits, impression management tactics, and life satisfaction differ according to some demographic variables. Significant relationships were also found between personality traits, impression management tactics, and life satisfaction.
