Synopsis
Epistaxis is an extremely common ENT emergency and can present in a wide spectrum from a mild attack to life-threatening bleeding. Multiple treatment modalities have been described in the intervention of anterior and posterior epistaxis. The important thing is to choose the appropriate treatment in the appropriate patient and to proceed with the most non-invasive and cost-effective method possible. Otolaryngologists should be familiar with the medications, tampons, radiological and surgical procedures used in severe and recurrent epistaxis. Detailed knowledge of nasal vascular anatomy is an absolute must for success in epistaxis intervention.
