Synopsis
This study provides physical activity recommendations for the healthy aging of older people. This study tries to explain the recommendations, methods and effects of physical activity for older adults. Physical activity plays a critical role in preventing diseases, maintaining independence and improving quality of life in older adults. According to the World Health Organization, older adults should engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity during the week or at least 75 minutes of high-intensity aerobic physical activity during the week. The statements made by the World Health Organization show that regular physical activity is important for older adults. It is emphasized that physical activity increases mobility by protecting muscle and bone health and is effective in the prevention and management of chronic diseases. It is also reported to reduce the risk of stress, depression and cognitive decline by making positive contributions to mental health. Physical activity that encourages social interaction has been shown to improve the quality of life of elderly individuals and help them maintain an independent life. In this study, the importance of adopting an active lifestyle in old age is emphasized and its contributions to the healthy aging process are examined.
