Synopsis
Globalization, which has a complex and multidimensional structure that includes the integration of various elements on a global scale, including economic, political, cultural, and social, requires strong and almost all-inclusive indexes to measure. However, globalization indices differ in that they adopt or do not adopt a multidimensional approach to measuring the phenomenon. In addition, the selection of dimensions to be considered, the indicators used in the creation of the index, the weights given to the indicators themselves, and the techniques by which they are brought together are also handled differently in each globalization index. The aim of this study is to present a comprehensive review and comparison of globalization indices that adopt a multidimensional approach in assessing globalization, with special emphasis on their methods, components, and effectiveness. Various multidimensional basic globalization indices, including the A.T. Kearney/Foreign Policy Globalization Index, the KOF Globalization Index, and the Maastricht Globalization Index, are comprehensively addressed, and each index is evaluated according to its capacity to cover various effects and reflections of globalization, such as trade and investment movements, technological interconnectedness, political participation, and cultural exchange. This study also addresses the strengths and limitations of globalization indices, shedding light on the difficulties of creating measurements that reveal the ever-changing and complex nature of globalization.
