Synopsis

Does the identity of a space solely depend on its structural features? Another element that changes and shapes the space is visual designs. Visual designs that are located in the space and provide an aesthetic perspective to that space can be exemplified with different applications. Supergraphics, one of these applications, are graphic design applications that are quite large-scale and usually integrated into a space. These designs, where aesthetics and functionality come together, aim to provide a different experience of the space. Located at the intersection of art and design, supergraphics not only add visual richness to spaces, but also undertake functional roles such as orientation, identity creation and enrichment of user experience. Being able to determine what elements determine the character of a space supports the aesthetic and functional status of supergraphics. These applications, which are thought to play a supporting role in creating a story about the space or changing or feeding an existing story, also make it possible to create a transformative and emphasizing effect in the public space. In this context, supergraphic applications can be described as large-scale visual designs that have both aesthetic value and fulfill functional requirements. Each line and form used in supergraphics allows for a dialogue with the space and aims to give meaning to the space it is applied to, beyond a visual identity.

Supergraphics are completely legal and planned applications that are frequently applied, especially in the 21st century, and contribute to the appearance of cities and spaces. It is thought that their examples will be encountered more frequently in the future. Supergraphics, which are the intersection of architecture, urban design and visual design and a modern design tool, are a subject rarely addressed in national or international publications. The aim of this study is to examine supergraphics as a design and art method in the environmental design of a modern city. It is thought that this section can contribute to the field in this sense.
