There is a serious connection between the state and the nation/people that created it. The state-nation bond, which can be considered from a material and spiritual point of view, manifests itself within the framework of elements that appear in different fields. Taxes, which are among the elements, are very important in terms of the state's strength. Because of this, the Ottoman Empire made an effort to register the heads of households (hâne reisi) and all kinds of material assets, and records called “temettuat registers” were kept.

In this study; the situation of Kiraz (Keles), which is currently a district of Izmir, in the first half of the nineteenth century, has been examined. The mentioned investigations were carried out in accordance with the temettuat registers recorded in 1845 and containing information about the settlements within the Keles. For this reason, the “Introduction” section contains information about the temettuat registers, which we can refer to as the “main source of the article”. After providing information about the dividend books, an explanation was made about how these data, which had previously been the subject of a dissertation, were used, and the “archive classification numbers” of the registers kept about Keles were shared. The first part, which starts later, deals with the geographical features and history of Keles. This section has also been supported by maps and tables. After that, the main part was passed on and information was given about the names and nicknames used in Keles. The information about the heads of households registered in the temettuat registers is shared in the “Appendices” section.
