Attitudes of Social Studies Teacher Candidates Towards the Turkish World

Synopsis

The aim of this study was to determine the attitudes of social studies teacher candidates towards the Turkish World. The research was carried out using the descriptive survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The study group of the research was determined by the easily accessible sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling types. The basis for determining the study group of the research was the volunteering. The study group of the research consists of 118 teacher candidates studying in the Social Studies Education Department, Turkish and Social Sciences Education Department, Faculty of Education, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University. In the research, the “Turkish World Attitude Scale” developed by Akın, Saraçlı, Kılıç, and Yıldırım (2017) and the “Personal Information Form” created by the researcher were used as data collection tools. Within the scope of the research, the variables of gender, class, age, attending conferences/seminars about the Turkic World in the last year, taking courses about the Turkic World, and traveling to Turkic World countries were examined in the attitudes of social studies teacher candidates towards the Turkic World. According to the findings obtained from the research, it was concluded that the attitudes of social studies teacher candidates towards the Turkic World were high. It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in favor of male teacher candidates between the gender variable. It was observed that there was no statistically significant difference in the variables of grade level, age, taking courses about the Turkic World and traveling to a Turkic World country. It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the variable of attending conferences/seminars about the Turkic World in the last year and the attitude levels of the Turkic World in favor of teacher candidates who attended conferences/seminars about the Turkic World. Suggestions were made regarding the findings.
