Synopsis
Rapid advances in science and technology have led to transformations that facilitate human life and provide many new opportunities. Adapting to these changes and possessing the knowledge and skills required by the times has become important for individuals. In this context, continuous learning and development is one of the fundamental elements that enable individuals to succeed personally and professionally. Employees seeking additional sources of income and accumulating knowledge and skills in different areas can help them adapt to this rapid change process. Moonlighting, that is, working an additional job outside the primary job, has become an increasingly common phenomenon due to this search. This study addresses and evaluates the reasons and consequences of moonlighting from a multifaceted perspective. Factors such as the need for employees to earn additional income, the desire to develop their careers, the desire to finance their hobbies, and the opportunity to gain new skills and experience different sectors can be counted among the reasons triggering moonlighting. However, in addition to the potential benefits of moonlighting, negative consequences should not be overlooked. Excessive work and intense pace can negatively affect employees' physical and mental health, increase their stress levels, and disrupt the work-life balance. It can also lead to decreased performance in the primary job, focus problems, and conflicts of interest with the employer. This study addresses the potential benefits, risks, reasons, and consequences of moonlighting from a multifaceted perspective for individuals and businesses. Thus, it aims to contribute to making more informed decisions on this issue and a better understanding of the current situation.
