Synopsis
Football is thought to be the most popular and most watched sport in the world today. The reason for this global interest in a sport is the developing football industry. Within this industry, although stadiums, uniforms, balls and trophies are important, the expectation of the audience is star players. Star players are athletes who play an important role in the success of their team. They are distinguished from others by their on-field and off-field behaviors and performances. While football clubs pay quite high prices to reach talented and star players, research continues to train star players from their own resources and bring them to professional teams. For this reason, it is important to train young football players correctly and maximize their potential, which has continuity in success. The development of young football players is of critical importance both in terms of increasing their individual talents and achieving collective success. Football is evolving towards a tactical game where athletes display their talents and strengths, which has accelerated compared to the last decades. It is thought that football players, who have evolved compared to the past, have evolved physiologically and mentally. The high-tempo, technical and tactical development of modern football expects more physical, mental and strategic skills from players. In this context, the education and development that young football players receive before they start their professional careers plays a critical role in keeping up with this evolution. In his studies on the development of talented athletes, Côté (1999) drew attention to the fact that receiving systematic and correct education at an early age increases the long-term performance of players. Such education not only provides young players with technical skills, but also teaches teamwork, strategic thinking and coping with stress. It can be said that the most important element leading to success and observed in star players is the balance between physical and psychological maturation. It shows that in addition to physical abilities, mental maturation also directly affects the performance of young football players. Vaeyens et al. (2009) revealed that talented football players generally differentiate significantly before or during adolescence, and that this is due to the early development of psychological endurance and game understanding. This shows that young players need to develop not only their technical skills but also their decision-making processes within the game. It is thought that training at an early age supports long-term development. However, it is important for young footballers to develop their physical characteristics that develop depending on their age in a long-term and gradual manner. Lloyd & Oliver (2012) stated that training load should be adapted by considering the developmental stages of athletes and emphasized the importance of applying different training models according to age. Many factors are effective in the development of young footballers. This study examines the parameters that are important in developing long-term footballers.
