Synopsis

In the physiological approach, strength is expressed as the tension created by a muscle or muscle group to overcome a resistance, while in sports, strength is defined as the specific effect created by all muscles to meet or overcome a resistance. As in every sport, some strength training is applied in the football branch.
In this book section, strength training methods applied in football and the French contrast training method are mentioned. The French contrast method was first applied in 2008 by Gilles Cometti, a French athletics coach. Later, this method was developed by Diets in 2012 to be used in training programs. When the researches on the subject are examined, it has been seen that this training method is an adequate training method to improve the muscle strength and speed of football players.
