Synopsis

Purpose: This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of goals scored during the 2022 FIFA World Cup to contribute to football strategies. Method: Data were collected from 64 matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, analyzing 170 goals using the notational analysis method. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 25.0 software. Findings: 25% of the goals were scored between the 76th and 90th minutes. Teams scoring the first goal won 74% of their matches. 87% of the goals were scored during open play, while 13% resulted from set-pieces. 92% of the goals were scored from inside the penalty area, and forwards contributed to 56% of the goals. Conclusion: The study highlights the critical impact of the first goal on match outcomes, emphasizing the importance of goals scored during open play and inside the penalty area, providing strategic insights for coaches.
