Synopsis

The proportion of young voters in the general electorate in Turkey is quite high. In this respect, convincing young voters and getting their votes is a subject that every political party especially focuses on, especially when the population density is taken into consideration. When evaluated in terms of voting potential, the number of young voters (5-6 million) corresponds to almost 10% of the total electorate. Therefore, determining and analyzing which factors affect the voting behavior of young voters is quite important. Because the politicians who will build the Turkey of the future will be those who can get the support of young voters. Studies have been conducted in the literature on voter behavior and which factors affect voters when they vote. However, it is seen that there are very few studies on young voters. Therefore, the aim of the study is to examine and analyze young voters' view of politics, their level of interest and which factors affect them when they vote. Since the study attempts to analyze young voters' view of politics, a "quantitative research" method was preferred. The data to be the subject of the study was obtained by the survey method. The universe of the survey study consists of Turkish citizens between the ages of 18-25 residing in Turkey. The province in which the survey would be conducted was determined according to the “Nomenclature of Regional Units for Statistics” (NUTS). The survey was conducted in 23 provinces, 63 districts and 314 neighborhoods. 2,018 participants aged 18-25 who were citizens of the Republic of Turkey and residing in the provinces included in the sample were determined by the random sampling method and the field/survey study was conducted by face-to-face interview method. The field study was conducted between 29.08.2023 and 26.09.2023. According to the findings, it was concluded that young voters' interest in politics is low, but they follow the political agenda and the internet and social media are quite effective in forming their voting behavior.
